“Happy Birthday, Sailor Moon!”
I started watching Sailor Moon, with my sisters, back in the mid 90s on YTV and was instantly obsessed! Back then my life was Mario Kart, Hanson & Sailor Moon. The show marked the first of my internet searches, having come out around the time that we got internet at my house. In between episodes I would spend hours scouring the internet for fan sites… things haven’t changed much!
I try to watch the entire classic anime series once a year, like my own Sailor Moon Birthday! As I watched in those early years, I took screen caps of my favorite moments and shared them on my personal Instagram account. My friends threatened to unfollow me, which ultimately led to my dedicated to Sailor Moon account. Funny enough, I haven’t signed into my personal account since! It started with screen caps, then moved to photos of my personal Sailor Moon collection; now I post anything that I think my fellow moonie fans would want to see!
My Instagram account has become a space for me to meet like minded people.
There are so many aspects of Sailor Moon to love, but I think the main reason people connect with the show is that it promotes inclusivity and encourages you to be yourself. Each scout has a different strength, and whether you’re the worst at school or the best in school, you are a special individual! Everyone has someone to relate to because each scout has a different personality and interest. And, let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to be a magical boy or girl just a little bit?
Personally, I am a huge Sailor Venus fan, so one of my fave episodes is when Sailor Venus/V “Makes the Scene.” I love the impostor Sailor Moon Zoisite! My second favorite moment from the show is part of the episode where Usagi has too much “juice,” it’s so cute and funny! And when thinking of favorite moments, I can’t forget the scene where Usagi & Mamoru reveal that they are Sailor Moon & Tuxedo Mask to one another! Intense!
I have so many favorite TeeFury tees it’s hard to pick only one, but I’d say I (heart) Tokyo tee by JBaz is one of my top designs! When I originally started my account it was all screen caps from the original anime, and I am very fond of heart eye Usagi screen caps. I actually do (heart) Tokyo, so it has a double-meaning for me! 😉
I wear my TeeFury Sailor Moon parody tees almost every day. They’ve become a great conversation starter and allow me to meet other Sailor Moon fans everywhere I go, from amusement parks to ice cream shops, to places down my street. It’s incredible how a fan art shirt can bring people together!
If I could spend Sailor Moon’s bday with her what would we do? OMG, first I would probably faint if I could hang with Sailor Moon, but after picking myself up off the floor, we would obviously shop till we drop, eat every cake/dessert in site, play video games, and, of course, I would get her to spill all the goods on her hunk Tuxy Mask, then maybe get her to introduce me to Motoki (Andrew in the dub)! For her gift, I would buy her the emerald green glass slippers she wanted for her birthday and cross my fingers that no bad guys appear!
